Batizado 2026 Recap

Batizado 2026 brought together students, families, instructors, and the wider Grupo Liberdade De Capoeira community for a day of workshops, ceremony, music, movement, and celebration in Las Vegas.

Event Recap

Batizado is the highlight of the Capoeira year — the ceremony where students receive their first cord, celebrate the next step in their training, and gather with mestres, contra-mestres, and instructors from across the GLDC family.

Batizado 2026 featured live workshops from visiting masters, open rodas, music circles with berimbau, atabaque, and pandeiro, and a graduation ceremony for students of every age — from kids to adults training with us in Las Vegas.

What Batizado Means

"Batizado" translates as "baptism" — but in Capoeira, it marks a student's formal entry into the art. It is the moment new students receive their first cord (cordel), and returning students step up to the next level in their journey.

Beyond the ceremony, Batizado is a gathering — a chance to train with visiting mestres, hear stories, play in the roda with people from other groups, and feel Capoeira as a living, breathing culture instead of just a class.

Thank You to Our Students and Community

A huge thank you to every student, parent, visiting mestre, musician, and volunteer who made Batizado 2026 possible. Events like this only happen because of a community that shows up for each other — on the mat, in the roda, and in the space between.

Axé to everyone who played, sang, cheered, filmed, cooked, and celebrated with us.
